Know what each number means before you step on site.
A roof measurement report shows each plane with its slope, pitch, and square footage. Openings like chimneys and skylights are subtracted. You see the net area for shingles, underlayment, and flashing.
The report includes a waste percentage calculated for the roof shape. Ridge, hip, valley, and eave lengths are listed. You get the numbers you need for material takeoffs and Xactimate® line items.
Order by address. Receive a PDF, ESX, or XML report the same day. Send it straight into Xactimate®. No climb required.
A roof measurement report is a document that lists every dimension you need to bid or order materials. It shows total squares, slope, waste, and linear lengths for hips, ridges, valleys, and eaves. Here is how to read each section.
The report shows total squares, which is the roof area divided by 100. One square equals 100 square feet. The net area is the total after openings like vents and skylights are removed. Use this number to order shingles and underlayment.
Slope is listed as a ratio, for example 6/12. The first number is the vertical rise in inches. The second number is the horizontal run in inches. Slope affects material waste and the type of underlayment needed.
Waste is calculated based on the roof shape and complexity. A simple gable roof has lower waste. A roof with many hips and valleys has higher waste. The report shows the percentage and the adjusted square count.
Linear lengths are listed in feet. Ridge length is the top horizontal edge. Hip length is the outside corner where two planes meet. Valley length is the inside corner. Eave length is the bottom edge. These numbers are used for flashing, ridge vent, and drip edge.
Each roof plane is listed separately with its own area, slope, and dimensions. This helps you verify the report against what you see on site. It also helps with ordering specific materials for different sections.
Chimneys, skylights, vents, and pipes are listed with their dimensions. The report subtracts their area from the total. You can see exactly how much material to cut around each opening.
A square is 100 square feet of roof area. Roofing materials are sold by the square. The report shows total squares and net squares after openings are removed.
The slope is listed as a ratio such as 4/12 or 8/12. It tells you the rise per 12 inches of run. This number affects material waste and underlayment type.
Waste percentage is the extra material needed for cuts, hips, valleys, and starter strips. A higher waste percentage means more material is required. The report applies this to the net area to give you a total order quantity.
Ridge and hip lengths are used to order ridge vent, hip shingles, and flashing. The report lists each length in feet. Add them together to get the total linear footage needed.
Yes. The report can be delivered as an ESX for Xactimate® or an XML for Symbility®. You import it directly into Xactimate® and XactAnalysis®. All planes, slopes, and openings transfer automatically.
Gross area is the total roof area including openings. Net area is the area after subtracting openings like skylights and chimneys. Use net area for ordering shingles and underlayment.
